Dr. Sandra Lee, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of SLMD, is back with expert advice on all things acne. She answers the most common questions concerning acne-fighting ingredients, best skin care practices and types of acne.

In this video, Dr. Lee begins by explaining enlarged pores and the difference between inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne, offering the best ways to combat each.

She highlights two of the most effective ingredients to treat acne —  Salicylic Acid for non-inflammatory acne (blackheads and whiteheads) and Benzoyl Peroxide for inflammatory acne (pimples and papules). To minimize and clean pores, Dr. Lee recommends SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Cleanser, a gentle exfoliating cleanser that can also lighten dark spots. Salicylic Acid can also be found in SLMD’s Resurfacing Acne Swipes, which can be wiped on the face and body to fight acne and hyperpigmentation, and SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Spot Treatment, which provides a concentrated dose of Salicylic Acid to stubborn pimples. Benzoyl Peroxide is the active ingredient in SLMD’s BP Lotion, a lightweight lotion applied in the morning to treat and prevent acne, in addition to SLMD’s BP Body Wash for body acne.

Maintaining a clear complexion is all about giving your skin what it needs and avoiding things that trigger breakouts. This means you have to understand what’s causing your skin concerns before you’re equipped to handle them. Thankfully, Dr. Lee is committed to sharing her skincare insights, so we can learn more about our skin, understand why we break out, and implement changes accordingly.
