4 Ingredients You Need To Fight Signs of Aging

“Anti-Aging” is a very popular skincare category, and for good reason! When we’re young, our skin has faster cell turnover, a stronger epidermis, and higher levels of Hyaluronic Acid, collagen, and elastin. As we age, our skin loses a lot of these properties, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.
While we can’t go back in time, there ARE things we can do to minimize signs of aging, and keep any fine lines, wrinkles, and “wisdom spots” from becoming more noticeable. Here are the skincare ingredients our founder and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Sandra Lee, recommends to keep you looking and feeling your youngest.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid is naturally produced in our bodies, and known for keeping us looking young and youthful. The less moisturized and hydrated your skin is, the more it tends to sag and lose its structure. That’s where using products with Hyaluronic Acid come in — in the form of injectables, serums, and moisturizers. This skin savior is able to hold 1,000 times its weight in water, so it can easily and effectively provide skin with the hydration it needs to stay supple and glowing.
Find it in SLMD Hyaluronic Acid Serum, formulated with dehydrated spheres of Hyaluronic Acid molecules suspended in a Squalane solution. Squalane is another natural, oil-based moisturizing ingredient that encourages moisture to dive deep into parched skin and expand into all your nooks and crannies.
Retinol
Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A, that slows down the breakdown of collagen, while simultaneously encouraging rapid cell turnover in our skin. The way that Retinol encourages skin cells to regenerate works a lot like exfoliating in the sense that it helps to turnover old cells to lighten imperfections, hyperpigmentation, and even dark spots and wrinkles.
Start incorporating it into your nightly routine, with SLMD Retinol Serum. It’s formulated with Vitamin C, Allantoin, and Provitamin B5 to keep skin bright, protected from environmental stressors, moisturized, and strong!
Kojic Acid
To reduce the look of age spots, Dr. Lee recommends kojic acid. This antioxidant has been around for centuries, originally discovered during the sake brewing process in Japan. It helps protect skin from environmental damage, including UV radiation.
SLMD Dark Spot Fix blends kojic acid, salicylic acid and niacinamide to help reduce the appearance of dark spots, even out complexion, and keep pores clear and healthy. Keep your wisdom without having the spots to prove it!
SPF
Wearing sunscreen (and reapplying sunscreen!) is so important. Dr Lee explains, when our skin is unprotected and exposed to the sun, it will begin to produce extra melanin in an effort to protect itself — this is why we tend to “tan”. But, the dark side to that (no pun intended!) is that this is also how areas of hyperpigmentation, brown spots/dark spots develop. Any existing dark marks will also darken if they are exposed to the sun. Furthermore, cumulative sun exposure can cause serious damage to the skin, leading to premature aging like dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, and skin cancer.
Use a daytime moisturizer that contains a broad-spectrum SPF, like SLMD Dual Defender, so you can kill two birds with one stone. It was formulated for acne-prone skin, but it’s safe for all skin types!
Time doesn’t have to be you (or your skin’s) enemy. With the help of these ingredients in your daily skincare regimen, your skin will be glowing in no time!
